Skin is important. Our face knows this more than anything. Look at all the stuff we put it through. Between cleansing, toning, scrubbing, masks, moisturisers, serums, tonics, essences and everything in between, we need a dermatology degree just to keep up.
In the age of YouTube tutorials and overpriced skincare lines made from obscurely sourced ingredients, we have a multitude of expert opinions, steps and products to choose from, and sometimes we are none the wiser for it.
Whatever happened to the simple 1-2-3 routine?
No matter how intricate and unnecessary some aspects of your regimen are, one part cannot be denied. Cleansing. As they say, cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Cleansers are the building block of skincare. Again, a multitude of different ingredients and formulas overwhelm the average joe. They can range from sudsy, skin stripping varieties to pure oil, and different price tags, branding and packaging only add to the bewilderment.
Here are three cleansers that we have tried from Sephora that we have seen amazing results from. It is always best to take advantage of a sample before you buy, as everyone’s skin reacts differently. Don’t be afraid to go back again and again to get a week’s supply, as one usage won’t really get you anywhere.
- Fresh Soy Face Cleanser– Great texture that creates a nice lather, smells fresh and leaves skin feeling soft and invigorated. Takes off makeup. A good cornerstone cleanser that can be used for all ages, skin concerns, and for basic cleansing. One of Sephora’s best selling cleansers.
- Kate Somerville Eradikate Cleanser- This pink cleanser will leave your skin extremely soft afterward, despite being used for something we would associate with drying out the skin. Can even be left on for a few minutes as a mask.
- Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser- We have only tried a sample of this yet to be released cleanser. From one use we can see that it lathers well, creating a nice ‘clean’ feel and does not have any colour or fragrance. With a few more uses to get a proper feel for it, this cleanser could be on par with Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser as your foundational step.
Yes, all three of these cleansers are expensive, but our skin has dramatically changed from using them. With all the pollution and dust that comes along with living in the city, pores can revolt in angst. Now our skin is supple and has a glow. The quality of ingredients is higher, and can really purify everything the city throws at us, from the tops of the skyscrapers to the bottom of the subway.
